Season’s Greetings
An eventful year comes to an end and the season of Christmas traditions now commences - festively decorated Christmas trees, Christmas markets and gingerbread.
For our Christmas greeting 2023, we have selected a special component that combines tradition and innovation: A milled nutcracker. The 40 cm tall aluminum figure is a replica of the world-famous wooden nutcracker from the Erzgebirge region in Germany. The traditional Seiffener Volkskunst cooperative provided the wooden figure for this purpose. In our video, you can see how the aluminum nutcracker is created, from the 3D scan to CAD/CAM programming with hyperMILL® to the complete machining process.

Nutcrackers from the Erzgebirge - Information from Seiffener Volkskunst
The first woodturners from the town of Seiffen in were first recorded in writing as far back as 1650. In fact, as early as 1870, the first figures from Seiffen were produced by Friedrich Wilhelm Fuechtner in the famous Erzgebirge design.
According to tradition, the prototype of the nutcracker from the Erzgebirge, in the colours red, orange, yellow and blue was produced over 140 years ago. He wore a crown reminiscent of a miners' headgear and his uniform was decorated with dots and small ornaments. In addition to wood, rabbit fur was used for the hair and beard, and dough for the feet and eyes.
The Erzgebirge nutcrackers are one of the traditions of Seiffener Volkskunst Cooperative. The nutcracker figures have been made from wood by craftsmen in the Erzgebirge since 1958.
